A Prayer of Blessing for Israel
Based on Isaiah 61 and 62
[Reading time: 1 minute] Lord Jesus, heal the brokenhearted of Israel and declare liberty for her captives. Announce the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of God’s vengeance. Give all who mourn in Zion a beautiful crown instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.
Enable them to rebuild their devastated cities. Cause foreigners to work in their factories and businesses, and take care of their properties.
May Israel be called priests of the Lord and ministers of our God. Cause them to feed on the wealth of nations, and give them a double portion of their inheritance instead of shame or disgrace.
In your faithfulness, reward them and make an everlasting covenant with them. Make their descendants known among the nations, so all who see them will admit they are a people you have blessed.
For Jerusalem’s sake, we won’t be quiet until her righteousness shines out like the dawn and her salvation like a brilliant light. The nations will see her righteousness and glory, and call her by the new name you’ll give her. She will be like a beautiful, royal crown in your hand.
Jerusalem, we long to see the Lord restore you, give you peace, and make you the praise of the earth. The world will call your people the Holy People, the Redeemed of the Lord. Your Messiah is coming and he has his reward with him.
