Book Reviews: Health and Healing

The Prophetic & Healing Power of Your Words

Becky Dvorak (©2018); Rating: 5

This is an excellent presentation. Although the author emphasizes the effect our words have on our physical health – which is the focus of her ministry – the principles apply to every aspect of life. The book is an easy and very worthwhile read.

Living From the Heart Jesus Gave You, 15th Anniversary Study Edition

James Friesen, James Wilder, et al; Rating: 3

Someone recommended this book to me, so I ordered it though I didn’t realize it primarily was about helping people recover from life’s traumas. I can see why so many find the book helpful, but I don’t think it measures up to other materials I’ve read and training I’ve received.

Unleashing Heaven’s Breath: Discover the Ultimate Secret to Releasing Signs, Wonders & Miracles

Steve Hannett (©2016); Rating: 5

This is an excellent book about allowing God’s power to produce supernatural results in people’s lives. It’s comprehensive and very readable. Each chapter includes a summary of main points, questions for reflection and a sample prayer. If you want to be mentored in the supernatural, this is an excellent resource. As the author explains, we need three things: an understanding of the source of supernatural power, an understanding of how to access it, and an understanding of how to live by it. The author covers all of these points and many more. An excellent book and I highly recommend it.

The Healing Creed: God’s Promises for Your Healing Breakthrough

Becky Dvorak (©2017); Rating: 4

This is a very good resource for any believer. The author combines scriptural teaching with healing testimonies and years of her ministry experiences, making the book easy to read and apply personally. Each chapter includes a closing prayer and self-examination, which helps the reader actually apply the material, not just read it intellectually.

Let Food Be Your Medicine: Dietary Changes Proven to Prevent or Reverse Disease

Dr. Don Colbert (©2016); Rating: 5

Dr. Colbert provides specific dietary guidelines for optimum health based on his Modified Mediterranean Diet. The primary goal is to reduce inflammation, which is associated with many of the diseases and ailments in developed countries. There are specific foods that contribute to these and specific ones that reduce them. Dr. Colbert has years of research, personal experience and medical practice to back up his recommendations. A great handbook for those concerned about the effects of the modern American diet.

The Bible Cure for Allergies

Don Colbert, M.D. (©2000); Rating: 4

I was motivated to read this book by allergies I’d had for decades and my belief that health practices based on the natural means of God’s creation would be most effective. I wasn’t disappointed. Dr. Colbert addresses environmental and dietary causes and presents practical steps to eliminate or reduce those causes. Even without using his guidelines for an elimination diet, I was able to identify several sources of my allergies and significantly reduce my symptoms.

Toxic Relief, Revised and Expanded: Restore Health and Energy Through Fasting and Detoxification

Don Colbert, M.D. (©2012); Rating: 4

This book is an easy read although some sections are full of technical details; yet even those sections are worth reading. Dr. Colbert’s descriptions of his earlier health problems and those of his patients demonstrate how important it is to eliminate the foods, behaviors and environmental conditions that cause health problems. He also describes the enormous role proper diet plays in restoring our health. Many of his recommendations for recovery are common sense, once you understand why they work. In reality, all of us are exposed to toxins and they can seriously affect our health. There’s no reason to accept poor health as a fact of life. Read “Toxic Relief” and you might discover the sources of your symptoms and how to get rid of them.
